1.           There is no cost associated to enter this ladder. If you are a serious player, you are the perfect player for the Pax River Tennis Ladder. Most of players entered in this ladder are serious players, not occasional players. You have to play at least one match every three week to enter this ladder. You will start with 40, 50 or 60 points,  it all depends on your skill level.

2.          If you are interested in joining the Pax River Tennis Ladder, please provide me your emailing address/name/phone number/USTA rating. Emailing Address:

Once you get any official matches, your world wide ladder ranking will be updated too. http://www.sportsladders.com/tennis/rankings/locals/paxriver.htm

3.           Upon completion of your first match, your local rank will be reevaluated. Newly entered players have to initiate setting up an official match ASAP.

4.           The rankings will be determined based on the points system.
If you are a member of Pax River Tennis Ladder, you will get weekly updated points/ranks/scores every Monday.

5.          Here are some basic rules you need to follow to make this ladder more
enjoyable.

          a. Both players bring a new can of tennis balls to the match.  The winner gets the unopened can and the loser gets the balls used during the match. If both players agree, you can use used balls (fairly good condition).

          b. The match is won by the player who wins 2 out of 3 sets or 3 out of 5 sets.  You can choose 12  point tie-breaker or conitune until winner gets 2 more games when you reach at 6-6 game points.

          c. Line calls.  Please give the benefit of your doubts to your opponents.

          d. Upon completion of the official match, winner  has to report me the scores within 48 hours though email or voice mail. Email: tainekim@comcast.net.

7.          This Tennis ladder will start 6 April and continue indefinitely.
During the winter months (Nov-Mar) no penalties would be given not playing a match during that period. Players who do not like the cold would not be penalized for not playing. The restart of penalty period will begin once again in April. All ladder players will participate the ladder Championships in Spring (April) and Fall (September).

8.   You can challenge up to seven points up/down from your current  points. You
can play official matches as often as your schedule and desires allows.
Note: Each time either you win or lose will impact your rankings and
points.

How are the Tennis Ladder rankings determined?

The Tennis Ladder uses a unique points system which ranks people based on the skill of their opponents, margin of victory, and match victories. Every ladder match which is played impacts the rankings of both players in opposite ways.

Each ladder match which is played than impacts both players points (one receives additional points and the other loses points). The match offset is calculated using a formula which takes into consideration the initial points rankings of the two players, game differential during the match, and match winner. The loser of the match can improve their standing on the ladder and the winner of the match can drop in the ladder if the match is played closer than expected.

For those of you who love math, the winners offset for a match which is best 2 out of 3 sets is calculated using the following formula:

                       ((wg - lg + 3) - (wp - lp)) / 10 where

wg = Number of Games Winner won in all sets

lg = Number of Games Loser won in all sets

wp = Winner's WWTL Points prior to the match

lp = Loser's WWTL Points prior to the match

The losers offset is the inverse of the winners.

For example, assume that player A has 55.00

points and player B has 53.00 points.
If player A wins 6-2, 6-2, the match offset for player A is .90(((12 - 4 + 3) - (55 - 53 )) / 10). The offset for player B is the inverse or -.90 points. Player As new rank would be 55.90 points and player Bs new rank would be 52.10 points.

ATTENTION ALL TENNIS PLAYERS:
The results are in and the 2004 Spring/Fall League Pax River Tennis Ladder winners are listed and pictured above. We had about 54 players participating in a 6 month period from April till November playing over 110 Games.  Ken Kim developed and runs the league.  It presently costs $7.00 to compete in 1 of 3 levels of play ranging from your NTRP 2.5 Level Players (White Category) up to the NTRP 4.5 Level Players (Red Category).  Schedule requires players to compete in 1 match per week with semi-final and final rounds at the end of the season.  Trophies are awarded to the winners of those categories.  If you'd like to compete, the Spring League is forming now, registration deadline is 07 April with League play beginning on 10 Apr.  Contact Ken Kim 342-6721 for details.
